In Celebration of Green Wave Day (22/5)

Activities of the day:-

7.30-8am:
Slides presentation by the Gardening & Environmmental Club on:-
1) Green Wave Day & 2) How To Save Earth

9.45-9.49am:
3 groups of the teachers and pupils were at our garden to witness the watering of the Cermai Plant.

10am:
Guest-of-Honour: Mr Ali (our school gardener) watered the plant, assisted by Mdm Ng (Our Principal) & Mdm Rahima (Our Vice-Principal)

After 10am:
Classroom Activity: Form Teachers and Mother Tongue teachers did 1 class journal or other form of work based on their experience of germinating the seeds in the classrooms.

After school:
Collection of classroom pots. Classes that successfully growed the seeds will be awarded 'We are Green Wave Activits Certificate'.

Preparation for Green Wave Day

Activity before the launch of Green Wave Day on 22 May 2009:

"Every class will be given a pot of soil, seeds and some fertilizers.
Pupils, teachers and MT teachers of the class need to take care of the plants.
On 22 May 2009, every class needs to write a short journal on how they take care of their plants, their experiences, and their role caring for the plants. Teachers can apply mathematical skills and science knowledge when writing this short class journal. Drawings and other kinds of creativity works are also accepted.
Every class contribution will be uploaded to the Greenwave website for the world to view. It is publicity for our school as well because only 14 schools in Singapore are taking part on Green Wave Day. In 2010 the NParks are hoping mass participation from all schools. The plants will be collected back on 25 May 2009 and transfer to the school garden. The plants will be labelled and taken care." (this message is fr Mdm Masnah)

Green Wave Day 2009

What is Green Wave Day?
It is a day when countries all over the world adopt a tree and will take care of their tree of choice. Every country will water their tree at 10.00 am on 22 May 2009. It is to create awareness and highlight the importance of trees to the world.

Our school will be taking part in Green Wave Day on 22 May 2009 organized by the NPark. Our Title is "Tree's to Share (Head, Heart, Hands)", and our school has chosen Cermai plant to be grown in our school compound. This tree is not commonly seen by the kids. Our pupils will be involved in the complete growth of the plant, as well as in the processing of the fruits into food such as pickles.

It’s also a 'Tree's to Share' (Head, Heart, and Hands) with other children. We will use our mind to come up with ideas to look after the tree, promote the benefits of the tree and what to do with the harvest etc, our heart to love and care for the tree , and we use our hands to water, weed and fertilise the tree.

Today is Earth Day!

What do you know about Earth Day? Well, it's a day to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970 and is celebrated in many countries every year.

Earth is our home, and we depends on earth for the resources to survive. Thus we have the responsibility, to protect these resources for the present, and also for our future generations.

Recycling is a good idea, but it's just not enough. The key lies in cherishing what we have. We must learn to live with greater environmental consciousness.

We can lead a simpler life, cherish things by using them to their fullest,help to reduce the amount of garbage and protect our environment, thus improving the quality of life on earth. If we can all put it into practice, the impact can be profound and far-reaching.

Visit to Hay Dairies & Spring Orchard

The GEC & Science Club members, together with 4 teachers and 2 PSG members, went to the Spring Orchard and Hay Dairies Goat Farm at Lim Chu Kang on the 19th of March. It was an interesting and educational excursion! We learnt alot on goatfarming and different species of fruit trees and vegetables.

Start blogging!

We started to set up our own nature blogs. The members were encouraged to put up their journal writings,artwork & nature pics in their blogs for sharing.The next blogging session will be on 3/4(Fri)@430pm. Members who had problems setting up accounts pls proceed earlier to Lab 1 @330-430pm, our TA Mr Jason will be there to give assistance.
